Manx Songs for Christmas

06 Dec 2024

A new set of recordings by Annie Kissack, demonstrating the spoken pronunciation & the singing of 14 classic Manx Christmas songs.

Back in 2018, the book of 40 Christmastime songs in Manx Gaelic, 'Nollick Ghennal,' was published, calling on decades of composing for the children of the Bunscoill Ghaelgagh by Annie Kissack & Aalin Clague.

Having heard from various people (including teachers and choir leaders) about the hurdles to those without much Manx to start performing the songs, we asked the mighty Annie Kissack to record some sound files to help out!

Now online are 14 spoken word pronunciations, with 14 accompanying sung demonstrations, of a range of songs in Manx.

They go from the very simple 'Ta Mee Feayr' or 'Manjoor Beg,' through ever-popular classics like 'Shinyn ny Deiney,' through to traditional Manx carvals like 'Troailt y Voidyn Vannee.' All are available online here.

The book is available in good Manx bookshops, but more information is available here.
