Hollie takes Manx dance to Glasgow!
Ny Fennee member Hollie Jaques has been sharing Manx traditional dance techniques with fellow dancers at the Glasgow Student Dance Company, and they performed some Manx dance in a spectacular show at the Mitchell Theatre last month.
Hollie explained: “GSDC is a dance company run at The University of Glasgow who have been nice enough to let me choreograph a Manx dance this year. We've been working towards the show since September, so since it was such a new style I taught them all the steps first through teaching them parts of Girls/Clare's jig so once December time came about I was able to put the choreography together by just shouting 'sevens!' and they'd know what was going on! ... Since there isn't a dance for 12 (that I know of anyway!) I decided to create my own piece of choreography which included all the Manx steps. Mec Lir kindly allowed me to use their music - Jem as Nancy and Calum's by Tomas [Callister]”.
